Bill wanted to know you. Not just your name, but your family, where you came from and your story. There was no short version of a story when Bill was telling it, and he had the same patience when listening to someone else’s. He remembered details, asked questions and made people feel that their lives mattered. That gift became one of the ways he loved his community. Bill didn’t simply live in Eufaula; he immersed himself in its people. He volunteered at the Eufaula Senior Center, Connections and the Clayton Senior Center, bringing energy, humor and encouragement to balloon volleyball, penny auctions and everyday conversations. He was a member of seemingly every organization in town. Many people will remember him not only for the laughter he brought into a room, but for the way he made them feel seen.

Bill leaves behind Linda, his family, his friends and a community that will continue telling his stories for a very long time. He also leaves behind the many people whose lives were made brighter, fuller or more connected because he took the time to know them. Some will remember his humor, some of his dancing, some of his unusual collections and some of his long stories. Many will remember the simple but lasting feeling that Bill welcomed them, included them, and cared about what happened to them.
